To the best of my knowledge, the great guitarist Ralph Towner has performed just once in Ottawa in the 30 or so years that I’ve been keeping track of jazz musicians coming and going. If I’m not mistaken, Towner’s only Ottawa concert was at the 2010 TD Ottawa International Jazz Festival, when he and Italian trumpeter Paolo Fresu, visiting on the heels of their 2009 ECM album Chiaroscuro, played intimate, rarefied duets from the Confederation Park Stage.
