Ever since Wellington Street was laid out as a main street, it has been the dividing line between the federal grounds of Parliament Hill and the urban core of the city of Ottawa. A busy thoroughfare, it has accommodated regular two-way daily traffic, crosstown bus routes, busy government employees hurrying to work on the Hill — and, of course, hordes of tourists, many on foot, others rubber-necking from their cars, wondering if they should visit the Parliament Buildings.
